In this talk, an overview of the field of image processing and the impact of artificial intelligence on this field are shown. Starting from the different tasks that can be performed with image processing, solutions using different AI technologies are shown, including the use of generative AI. Finally, the effect of AI for autonomous systems, and the challenges that are faced are discussed.
The field of image processing and the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on its evolution will be explored. We will begin by outlining the various tasks that image processing can accomplish, from image enhancements to complex information extraction. The discussion will then delve into how different AI technologies, including generative AI, are revolutionizing these tasks, providing innovative solutions and unprecedented capabilities.
Furthermore, we will discuss the topic of AI in autonomous systems, highlighting its transformative effects and the new possibilities it unlocks. The talk also addresses some of the challenges for autonomous systems, offering insights into ongoing research and future directions.
Judith Dijk has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Imaging and Artificial Intelligence. The focus of her research is generation of situation awareness of complex, open scenes using camera systems. Two typical applications for this are autonomous systems and camera systems for defense applications. She prefers to work on applied science, between fundamental research and application. Her ambition is to combine possibilities and results from different disciplines to generate innovations with both scientific value and added value in practice. Until recently, Judith was a research scientist at TNO, where she defined the research projects and started collaboration with national and international partners on these topics. Since September 2024 she works at the European Defence Agency (EDA) as project officer Optronics.
